Die Band Saxon hat sich als Galionsfigur der NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) profiliert. Die Jungs beweisen auf dem Hellfest – falls das überhaupt nötig ist –, dass sie es noch ordentlich drauf haben. Anschnallen und los!

Wenn Heavy-Metal-Musiker lange Haare, Jeans, Leder und Ketten tragen, dann ist das zu einem großen Teil Saxon zu verdanken. Die Band aus South Yorkshire gehört nämlich zu den Aushängeschildern der New Wave of British Heavy Metal, kurz: NWOBHM. Zu dieser Bewegung, die Ende der 1970er Jahre im Vereinigten Königreich entstand, zählen unter anderem die legendären Bands Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Def Leppard und Judas Priest.

Zahlreiche Alben haben die Geschichte von Saxon und damit auch die des Rock im Allgemeinen geprägt: Wheels Of Steel (1980), Strong Arm of the Law (1980), Denim and Leather (1981), Power & the Glory (1983), Unleash the Beast (1997), Metalhead (1999) und viele mehr. Bis heute veröffentlicht die Band in schöner Regelmäßigkeit neues Material. Und obwohl die Musik von Saxon im Laufe der Jahre modernere Züge angenommen hat, sind die Jungs ihren Heavy-Metal-Wurzeln stets treu geblieben. Das beweist auch ihr 2024 erschienenes Erfolgsalbum Hell, Fire And Damnation.

The band Saxon has made a name for itself as a figurehead of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The boys prove at Hellfest - if that's even necessary - that they still have what it takes. Buckle up and go!

When heavy metal musicians wear long hair, jeans, leather and chains, it's largely thanks to Saxon. The band from South Yorkshire is one of the figureheads of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, or NWOBHM for short. This movement, which emerged in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s, includes the legendary bands Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Def Leppard and Judas Priest, among others.

Numerous albums have shaped the history of Saxon and thus that of rock in general: Wheels Of Steel (1980), Strong Arm of the Law (1980), Denim and Leather (1981), Power & the Glory (1983), Unleash the Beast (1997), Metalhead (1999) and many more. To this day, the band continues to release new material on a regular basis. And although Saxon's music has taken on more modern features over the years, the boys have always remained true to their heavy metal roots. This is also proven by their successful album Hell, Fire And Damnation, released in 2024.
